Graphics fall into to two main categories: 1. Vector graphics
and
2. Bitmap graphics
The difference between the each format is what they're made up of.
Vector graphics are made up of lines and curves. Bitmap graphics are made up of little squares called pixels.

A bitmap image is made up of pixels. The larger you make your bitmap image, the larger the pixels become.
Thus the more 'pixilated' your image may appear when you enlarge it.

What format do you need for your logo output?
That depends on who's printing your image, and what your image will be put onto.
If you're going to use your logo for the web, you need a bitmapped image. A GIF or a JPG are bitmaps. The Logo Creator only outputs Bitmapped images.
Some printshops can only use vector files.
